More from RTI: Tennessee Football Makes Top Eight For Blue Chip Receiver
Oden is a consensus four-star prospect across all four major publications of 247Sports, Rivals, On3 Sports, and ESPN. While 247 has Oden listed as an athlete, the latter three have him as a safety prospect in the class. Oden also told RTI in October that he considers himself a pure athlete on the defensive side of the ball.
On3 Sports’ consensus rankings have Oden listed as a Top 200 overall player, the No. 14 safety in the class, and the No. 5 player from the state of Michigan.
While Tennessee has made significant progress over the course of Oden’s recruitment, the Harper Woods, Michigan native looks to be overwhelmingly trending in the direction of Michigan.
Oden has eight 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictions all picked toward the Wolverines, with the most recent five coming in on Monday or Tuesday. That includes 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong – who is 52-of-52 in his predictions for the class of 2024.
On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine also has Michigan at an astounding 95.7 percent, indicating a near lock on Thursday evening.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pound defensive playmaker was in Knoxville for the Tennessee-Alabama game and even filmed a 12-minute video documenting his experience. The following week in October, Oden spoke to Rocky Top Insider about his relationship with the Tennessee staff and his thoughts on the game.
“It was turnt the whole game,” Oden said after the 52-49 Tennessee win over Alabama. “Like, the whole entire game. People were yelling every play after everything that happened. Neyland, they were singing their song, the Tennessee song. So after everything, it was turnt, especially at the end.”
“That was turnt, like, some of the most fun I’ve had on a visit,” Oden continued on to say. “That’s college football. That’s the best part, seeing everybody happy and celebrating after a dub. So that was fun.”
Jacob Oden will be announcing his commitment decision on Thursday, Feb. 2, on CBS Sports.
